Finally branching out into using dark tones throughout the background of this piece, led me to using a smaller amount of wax. However, I do really like how this piece turned out, I like the way the red stands out against the black tones and is completely softened by the white tones. There is a fault within this piece in my in opinion, the way I have made marks within the background, in the dark tone, is completely different to how I normally make marks. They are rigid and thick, completely opposite to the types of marks I normally like to make, which are softer to an extent, and flow more. Therefore I like this piece to an extent, I would definitely call it a successful experiment, due to black tones turned out well and being something I would like to develop. In addition to that, finding out the wax works well against the dark background which also led me to thinking of what other colours and tones would work well.
