As I started to become more confident with spray painting, especially with way I had been applying paint, I decided to move onto using various colours and starting to apply two tonal colours together. I decided on using two neon colours because I feel it relates well to the rave scene within Grime culture. In addition to this, I love the bright and vibrate colours produced by these colours. I feel they work really well with the flowers and create an exuberant print. Whilst, I did still struggle with creating a neat finish on the pieces, I like how these piece have turned out. The large scale of them is defiantly something I would like to play around with potentially making some smaller pieces and combining them together. Whilst I feel spray painting is working out very well, Wiley uses paint to create most of his floral designs and I feel it would be ignorant to ignore this and not experiment with paint, therefore I am taking a short break from this sketchbook to experiments with using paint to create floral prints.

I decided to create my stencil out of something more durable, therefore I used card. It was extremely difficult to cut out, and took me a long time, around two hours as I found it extremely hard to cut out the petal shapes. I did initially find it hard to spread an even layer of paint within the piece, therefore a lot of faded marks were left. However, I feel the stencil was extremely effect, I really like they way the strong individual layers of the petals built up within the piece, I feel the bold colours holds it's own. One thing I would improve within this piece, is to maybe look at adding a background, potentially relating it to the marks I had been making throughout my previous sketchbooks.

After dabbling with making graffiti marks within my sketchbook, I decided to dedicate a sketchbook to it because it was something I really wanted to start developing. I began making marks, within the gold spray paint I had bought. I don't feel this went well, I feel I am not skilled enough, or have developed my spray painting technique enough to not use stencils. In addition to this, I wanted to trail out stencils. I do not feel this piece is completely unsuccessful, it has shown me how difficult spray painting is and how much I need to develop my skills. To conclude, I will continue with spray painting, as I love the texture and references I can make with using this medium, and will trial out making stencils.

All three of these studies consists of the wax leaking through into the next page and experimenting with the marks created by it, and how I could manipulate the marks to create more tones and line. I feel all three of these pieces went well, they all catch my eye, but I partly think this is because of the red colour  used, something which I love and will always be drawn towards. I feel painting with the lining of the wax works well with the paint, especially with the mark making aspect of the piece. Therefore I will continue to make these marks, but starting to experiment with incorporating various mediums and materials into the pieces.

Finally branching out into using dark tones throughout the background of this piece, led me to using a smaller amount of wax. However, I do really like how this piece turned out, I like the way the red stands out against the black tones and is completely softened by the white tones. There is a fault within this piece in my in opinion, the way I have made marks within the background, in the dark tone, is completely different to how I normally make marks. They are rigid and thick, completely opposite to the types of marks I normally like to make, which are softer to an extent, and flow more. Therefore I like this piece to an extent, I would definitely call it a successful experiment, due to black tones turned out well and being something I would like to develop. In addition to that, finding out the wax works well against the dark background which also led me to thinking of what other colours and tones would work well.
Whilst there is no tone at all within this piece, I do like the way the wax has seeped through onto this page. It create a greasy texture and whilst it sounds vile, it was actually nice to paint onto, therefore I will defiantly be looking at using this to my advantage within further experiments.
Since my previous piece had such little to give in the background, I decided to create a darker background this time. I did not completely go into black tones, instead just create more a grey coloured tones. I do not know why I did this. It was a bad decision. Again, I feel the wax works really well this piece, I decided to melt within the centre of the page and this is because I feel the wax in the centre of the piece creates a powerful statement in my opinion. You go through my sketchbook and this is definitely  the piece which stands out the most. I feel this comes down to two factors, the first being the colour, I feel red is such a powerful colour and it always makes it's way into my work. The second being the texture and form, because it literally melted onto the page, it's dried and stuck in that position which I feel creates a flow through the piece. To conclude, I am happy with how this piece has turned out, however I would like to start making a stronger impact on the background of the page, which will either support or draw attention away from the wax, but I'm excited to find out.
