Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Renia Sofia

This was the first gallery we were able to visit. The style of work there was mainly contemporary work which is a style I enjoy. I kept an open mind visiting the gallery away, therefore was able to look at a whole range of work, rather than just focusing on what I liked. After searching throughout  the various halls and rooms of work, I entered the Picasso exhibition, in which displayed some of his most influential pieces of work such as, Guernica. I really admired the scale of the size of this piece, which got me to think about using a larger scale within my own work. Throughout the coursework and last years exam, I tended to stick to a smaller scale, in which I assumed I found easier to work on. However, I haven't properly trailed out working on larger pieces, therefore will defiantly want to experiment with various scales this year.  To conclude, whilst I did not enjoy or feel inspired by all of the at work within this gallery, I feel the experience of doing going to the gallery and being able to look around it, has inspired me enough. The size of the gallery, in my opinion really changed the way you perceive the work. The large scale pieces seem huge once placed in these huge halls. However, so does the smaller scaled pieces of work. I believe having a lot of space around the piece really allows more attention to be drawn to it, rather than too much work created a large clutter together. This had led me to think about my work and how I want to present it this year. For example, within my sketchbook, I enjoy working in a expressive style, which usually contains a lot of texture, therefore I need to think about if I can place expressive pieces page after page, or whether I will have to format my sketchbook in some sense to allow that individual focus on each piece.
